  • Parents agree to provide instruction from all of, but not limited to, the following subjects:
    • Reading
    • Spelling
    • Writing
    • Arithmetic
    • English
    • Geography
    • Science
    • Health
    • Physical Education
    • U.S. History
    • Alabama History
  • Parents agree to include a Bible curriculum in their school program.
  • Parents agree to select and purchase all curriculum and organized course of study.
  • Parents agree to provide instruction for a minimum of 140 days per year with each day consisting of a minimum of three hours or three subjects.

Annual Re-enrollment

  • Parents agree to submit a copy of attendance records annually for the “school year” ending July 31st and covering the entire period for which the children/students are enrolled in NACS for that “school year”. These records are to be placed in the family’s file maintained by the NACS Administrator. These are due NLT August 31st.
  • Parents agree to submit the annual enrollment fee at the beginning of the “school year” which is designated as the second Saturday in August.
  • If the submission items above are not submitted by August 31st of the renewal year, NACS may notify your local superintendent that your family is no longer participating with NACS.
  • The requirement stated herein serves as notice.

NACS Recommendations

  • Maintain records of attendance, a daily journal of instruction, or lesson plans and a portfolio of materials containing samples of each student’s work.
  • Students take standardized tests beginning in the fourth grade and every three years thereafter.
  • Attend monthly faculty meetings that are designed to help in carrying out teaching and parenting responsibilities as well as to serve as a support group. During a school year (August through July), at least one parent is required to attend a minimum or three monthly faculty meetings. Each enrolled student is required to participate in at least one field trip or monthly activity (a faculty meeting is not a monthly activity) during the course of the school year. Family attendance at any graduation conducted by NACS is mandatory. To waive adherence to this policy of mandatory attendance, a written explanation acceptable to NACS administration must be placed in your enrollment file in the NACS office.

Termination of Enrollment

  • Parents agree to notify NACS in writing when enrollment of any or all children is terminated.
  • Administration reserves the right to dismiss any NACS faculty members and their students if in the administration’s judgment the attitudes or actions of the individual or his/her family endanger the unity of the school and/or endanger the rights of other homeschoolers.
  • Failure to comply with the enrollment requirements stated herein will result in application denial or dismissal from NACS.
  • As required by Alabama Code 16-28-7, NACS will notify the local Superintendent of any termination of enrollment.
  • The Administration, after consultation with the West Huntsville Church of Christ elders and NACS faculty, may make modifications to this ministry as deemed necessary or appropriate.

  • Parents must complete a student application form for each child enrolled in NACS plus the Faculty Parent Application.
  • Faculty must be active, faithful members of the church of Christ. The evangelist or an elder of the congregation where the parents are members must submit a completed reference form indicating that the parents are active members in good standing. You should provide for them the form and a stamped envelope address to NACS.
  • All parents must sign a disclaimer statement releasing West Huntsville Church of Christ/NACS and any representative of the church/school from responsibility and liability for the education of their children. Only the parents are liable for the education of their children.
  • When possible, the required application, reference, and disclaimer forms should be completed in full and submitted to NACS for approval at least four weeks prior to the beginning of the public school year.
  • The prospective family (with children) should meet with the administrators for an interview/orientation.
  • Families participating with NACS should consider their legal defense options with regard to their home school status. Membership in HSLDA is NOT required for enrollment with NACS. Each family is responsible for their own legal defense with regard to their home school status. Options include, but are not limited to, securing your own legal council, membership in HSLDA, or checking with the Rutherford Institute.
  • An annual enrollment fee of $25.00 per student with a cap of $50 per family is required to cover school expenses and includes the use of equipment (e.g. copy machine, lamination machine, etc.), Bible resource materials belonging to West Huntsville Church of Christ and other limited equipment available from the school. This privilege is limited to faculty and limited to school purposes. Use of the copier and laminator is limited to the amount the enrollment fee will provide to cover this purpose. Use beyond this amount will require a fee of $.05 per copy and $.05 per foot of lamination used. A one-time graduation fee of $20.00 is required for each student prior to graduation. The annual fee, graduation fee, and equipment fees are subject to change from year to year. Deposit of your check or cash for the enrollment does NOT constitute acceptance of enrollment into NACS. NACS is a non-profit ministry of the West Huntsville Church of Christ.
  • When enrollment in NACS is complete, the parent/teacher must send a written request for each student’s records from his previous school.
  • The Church School Enrollment Form, that confirms each student’s enrollment in NACS, is required by Alabama Code 16-28-7. Parts I and III must be completed. You must provide the name and address of your local superintendent on the Enrollment Instruction Form. The address for the superintendent, or the school DISTRICT (city or county), is needed, not the address of the particular school your child would otherwise attend. NACS will complete part II and send the original to the local Superintendent’s office. NACS will keep one copy on file, and the parents will receive one copy for their files. NACS will NOT notify the Superintendent’s office until all enrollment process requirements are completed and submitted. Some school districts may require that the parent obtains a form directly from the school district office and submit a completed form directly to that office.
  • There is a New Enrollment Checklist available for download. If you use it, you will be sure that you have completed all the steps necessary to be properly enrolled in NACS. It is recommended that you keep the checklist until you receive your official notice of acceptance.
